About Mrs. Muchmore:
This is Mrs. Muchmore's 9th year at Lone Rock School.
Questions and Answers:
How did you come to teach here?
I taught for one year at Granite High School in Philipsburg, Montana.
I was commuting to and from Lolo and was looking for a school closer
in the area. I really enjoy the small rural school atmosphere at Lone
Rock and have been here ever since.
What are the highlights of your school year?
My classes this year are great! The students in my classes are full
of energy and bring a sense of adventure to each and everyday. My classes
are small in numbers and that benefits everyone in the class! I look
forward to going up to Discovery Ski Resort and skiing and snowboarding
with the middle school students.
What are the interesting projects your class works on?
The seventh graders will be out and about learning about the environment
and how they can better the community they live in. Projects the seventh
graders work on are monitoring the water quality of Three Mile Creek
in the fall and the spring. They will also be planting shrubs and trees
at the Lone Rock Park in the fall and spring. The planting of the shrubs
is part of "More Kids in the Woods" grant the students are
participating in with the Bitterroot National Forest learning about
ecosystems and caring for the land through outdoor stewardship projects.
They will also be utilizing the JASON project curriculum-Resilient Planet.
This curriculum is a nation-wide curriculum that promotes inquiry based
teaching.
My eighth graders will do several cross grade curriculum science activities
with Mrs. Minister's 5th grade class. The 8th graders will take on the
teacher role and teach the 5th graders about astronomy, machines, and
biomes. My eighth grade math class will participate in Math Counts Club
Program for the entire school year. MathCounts is a year long program
with activities designed to excite and challenge middle school students.
In the spring students will compete with other middle school students
in a math competition at the University of Montana.
The 6th grade performing art class will be performing "A Christmas
Wizard of Oz" play during the month of December. The students are
busy practicing their script, designing costumes, and backdrops.
What is the best part of teaching at Lone Rock? Why do you like teaching
here?
I love teaching at Lone Rock and dealing with a small community. The
parents are involved and truly care about the school and the staff.
I work with an amazing staff that is talented and cares about each student.
