No Thumbs! Students in Mrs. Slattery’s Class have been studying animal adaptations. They learned about the importance of their own thumbs! Students timed themselves opening water bottles, tying shoes, zipping zippers and writing. Then, they took turns taping down their thumbs and trying to do the same tasks. They discovered that the opposable thumb is a really great adaptation!
How can you tell the difference between an omnivore, carnivore or herbivore? Working together as “Bone Detectives” we took measurements, examined teeth and skulls and were able to identify 9 different animal species, including: black bear, mountain lion, muskrat, pine marten, raccoon, rabbit, beaver, bobcat, and coyote.
Mrs. Slattery’s Class was visited by two Naturalists from the Montana Natural History Center. Mr. Brian and Ms. Ashley taught the students about flower form and function. Students dissected flowers and viewed them under a microscope. Check out our new.schoolnotes.com page for more information!
Experiencing Hypothermia with the Fish Guys!
Students learned about the importance of water safety by plunging their hands into icy water for one minute to experience how quickly the the body is affected.
